Shackamaximum Imperial Stout – Philadelphia Brewing Co.

Shackamaximum

Shackamaximum. An Imperial Stout that is……okay.

Shackamaximum.  When naming this stout, The Philadelphia Brewing Co. tied this name back to the roots of Philadelphia.  Shackamaxon is the Lenape Native American’s name for the village that eventually became the city of Philadelphia. Just saying the name has you expecting alot.

The color of this beer as you can see is black.  The head is of average size, a light brown color and is foamy in texture. The aroma of the stout has strong chocolate and coffee notes.  When taking a sip, I get more chocolate and coffee flavors, but also espresso notes.  There is a slight burnt taste from the malts that linger on the finish that some people who never tried an Imperial Stout may find unappealing.  This stout also has a dry finish.

This is a sipping beer, as it is an Imperial Stout.  Although I did some-what enjoy drinking this beer, I would not buy a case of Shackamaximum.  I am very stingy when it comes to buying cases of beer.  For me, I would rather spend my money on a beer that has more depth and enjoyable flavors.  If I’m dropping over $35 for a case of beer it needs to be very enjoyable.  This is a one-beer beer. If at a party and this was in the cooler, I might grab a bottle. Might.  I would check and see what else was in the cooler, though.

ABV = 8.0%
