Merry Monks – Weyerbacher

I figured I'd do a review on a beer that I've enjoyed for a long time - Merry Monks by Weyerbacher, their Belgian Triple.   When poured, Merry Monks has a nice orange color to it with a hazy body clarity.  It has a huge white head that has a rocky appearance.  This beer is bottle conditioned, so the carbonation is prolific and lends a creamy mouthfeel to it.     The aroma of this brew has that distinctive Belgian yeast characteristic, along with that of clove and apples.  The flavors that I perceive are that of apples, pears, the Belgian yeast notes, clove and slight pepper in the background.  The effervescent carbonation adds to the tasting experience, and on the finish there is a malty sweetness that rounds the beer out. Merry Monks is a flavorful beer and one that I enjoy having.  I recommend buying a couple of bottles and then aging them and you will see how the flavors develop over time. ABV = 9.3%
