Dunkelweizen is a German style that translates as “dark wheat”. Samuel Adams has created a Dunkelweizen that is very enjoyable.
In the glass, the beer has a copper color, medium carbonation, and a large head that is white and foamy. The head dissipated slowly but by the end of the tasting it was completely gone.
This beer has an unusually pleasant banana aroma. It has an enjoyable clove taste that is not in-your-face. There is a malt hint in the background and a sweetness that slips in on the finish. It is light on the palate – doesn’t sit on it and it is crisp and clean. Each sip of this dunkelweizen is a reintroduction of the brew.
This is a fine beer and I would recommend it to anyone looking to try something different. It is usually found in variety cases and if you see it, buy one. Change is good.
