Merry Christmas Happy New Year – Anchor Brewing

Anchor - Merry Christas Ale

1.5 litters of Christmas cheer! Perfect for sharing with good friends!

Let me just start out by saying that this is a 1.5 litter bottle of beer!  This special ale that is brewed by Anchor Brewing is sold only from November to mid-January.  And each time it is brewed the recipe is different, which makes each one unique.  This is the 38th version of the  special ale. This is the first time I tried this beer.  My brother, Kyle brought it to my house as my wife and I were hosting Christmas Eve dinner.

This bottle was split between my wife and I, and two of my brothers.  The picture doesn’t really showcase the color and look of the beer (thanks to the table cloth) so I will have to do a good job of describing it.  Pouring it into my glass, the color is a dark black with little carbonation.  It has an average size head that was light brown in color and foamy in texture.  It left a nice lacing on the glass.

The aroma of this Christmas Ale had cherry and spruce hints along with a slight malt taste.  There weren’t any hop hints in the aroma or taste.  The taste of the ale has carmel and toasted notes along with cherries and a hint of smoke and spruce.  The finish of the beer is sour like cherries, was dry and has a medium body.

The Merry Christmas Ale from Anchor Brewing is an enjoyable beer.  If you haven’t had a chance to try this beer, you may have missed it, but there is always next year.

ABV = 5.5%
