Spiced Amber Ale – Blue Moon

Spiced Amber Ale - Blue Moon

How about a little spice?

Spiced Amber Ale.  Just the name alone conjures up thoughts of sitting around a fire with a mug of spice amber ale, enjoying time with your friends. And with this limited winter release  from Blue Moon, this is exactly how you want to enjoy their Spice Amber Ale.

Right from the beginning when I opened the bottle, I smell cinnamon.  I poured it into the glass too slowly, so the head did not generate.  I believe that it was my error in the pour. The color of the ale has a dark ruby color, with a clear clarity and soft carbonation.

So, getting back to the aroma of the Spice Amber Ale……….cinnamon.  It has a strong cinnamon presence that envelopes your sense of smell. Some may think that it is a bit too much, but I think that it wouldn’t be a spiced amber ale if it wasn’t as prominent as it is.

When I took a sip of the beer right away I get the cinnamon flavor.  It isn’t so much a spice as it is the essence of cinnamon.  I also get hints of caramel right behind the cinnamon and nice malt character and flavors.  This beer seems to have a slight sweetness to it too.  The taste is pleasant with a creamy mouthfeel.  This ale does sit on your palate a little longer than other beers.

This beer came in the Winter Variety pack so there are three other beers to try.  Overall it was a good beer and I would buy the variety pack again.

ABV = 5.6%
