Red’s Rye PA – Founders

Rye PA from Founders. Founders always has good beers to drink.  I acquired a bottle of Red's Rye PA and I was looking forward to try it. In the glass this rye pale ale has a copper color with a hazy clarity.  The head is an off-white color and the head size is small and dissipates quickly.  It ends up being a small ring that forms around the edge of the glass. This brew has strong piney hop aroma along with a malt and rye presence.  Red's Rye PA  has a caramel malt taste that has a malty backbone and a slight sweetness and peppery finish.  There is a flavor that may be coming from the rye that is wrestling my taste buds - and they are trying to tap out. This beer jumps onto your palate and the hop and rye aftertaste sits there and takes up residence. It is a medium-bodied beer and it has an astringent taste that is not enjoyable for my palate.  It may be the rye that is lending this flavor that is off-putting to me and others may enjoy it, but one is enough for me. ABV = 6.6%
