I received various bottles of Saranca from my home brewing friend and the first one I tried from this donation is Prism White Ale.
Pouring Prism into a glass you can see right away that this ale is hazy with an orange color. It has little carbonation, a large white foamy head that dissipates slowly. It leaves a little lacing behind on the glass.
Leaning over the glass, I was completely caught off guard by the aroma of this beer. I am hit with apricot notes right up front, followed by a slight orange citrus that is some-what floral. This is a fragrant beer that just smells great . The taste follows the aroma. You taste the apricot flavors up front and the orange-like notes, but it is not as pronounced as the aroma would lead you to believe. This is not a bad thing. It tastes great without being in-your-face about it. The beer finishes with a nice hop bitterness that keeps it in check.
Saranac’s Prism White Ale is a beer that will surprise you with its flavor and aroma even if someone tells you what to expect. This is a quality brew and I wish I had more than the one bottle I drank. I’ll have to go pick up a six-pack or two.
