Pauwel Kwok – Brouwerij Bosteels

Pauwel Kwok brewed by Brouwerij Bosteels. A fine ale. The first time I had Pauwel Kwok was at the Iron Abbey in Horsham, Pennsylvania and I enjoyed it.  They have a great selection of beers from Europe and the US.  So when I saw a bottle of Pauwel Kwok in a local bottle shop, I bought it and took it home. In the glass, the head is white in color, fizzy in texture and dissipates quickly.  The beer has a ruby color and a hazy clarity. The aroma of this ale is that of dark dried fruit like raisins and dates along with the familiar Belgian yeast character.  The taste has those same notes of raisins and dates but also a  nice malty caramel flavor. While that first sip is happening, there is a noticeable alcohol presence that comes through.  This is kept in check as those bread notes and Belgian yeast that come up on the finish. Pauwel Kwok is a Belgian style ale that one who enjoys this style should try. It is a fine ale and one that I will enjoy once again. ABV = 8.4%
