Monty Python’s Holy Grail Ale. Yes, this is a real beer. It is brewed by the Black Sheep Brewery in England. Naturally, when I saw this one I had to try it.
I poured the ale into a glass and it actually had a nice average size head that was foamy and white in color. The carbonation was lively and the body clarity of the beer was clear with an amber color. It looks nice in the glass.
This brew has the aroma of malt, biscuit and hints of caramel. The taste has notes of caramel and slight pine. The finish has candied fruit and some honey in the background. The carbonation was lively throughout the tasting and this surprised me.
I guess when you see a beer with Monty Python on the label, you expect it to be a joke. But in reality it is a beer that is nothing special – it is just another ale. And I guess that is okay. Nothing great stands out with this brew. Although, it is tempered over burning witches as stated on the label. I would not buy a case of this beer, but if it was offered at the local pub, I might — might give it a second thought. Well, maybe a third thought.
