Bornem Triple Abbey Ale – Brouwerij Van Steenberge

Triple Abbey Ale
I was very happy to do a tasting of this beer, a Triple Abbey Ale all the way from Belgium. I've had a couple other beers from the brewers at Brouwerij Van Steenberge that are on my site. They were good beers. (Do a search for Brouwerij Van Steenberge if interested in seeing the other write-ups.) After pouring the triple abbey into my glass, the beer has a nice average size head on it that was fizzy and white in color. The lacing on the glass was fair throughout the tasting and the head did dissipate quickly.  The beer has a nice gold color to it with a slight haze. The carbonation of the ale was lively which comes out in the tasting of the beer. The aroma of the beer has a few things going on.  I get a slight banana and clove hints and a sweet fruit smell. A very enjoyable beer to inhale.  Also, you get notes of alcohol that's letting you know that this will be a strong one. The taste of the triple abbey has layers.  As you take your sip, you are first greeted with the clove and currant taste.  The second level is the nice malt character that comes through to boost the flavor.  The tasting is then finished with the alcohol that adds the dryness to it.  This is a sipping beer that I really enjoyed.  Full of flavor and aroma. I'd like to finish this write-up by thanking my friend Mike for the Chimay glass.  He "picked it up" for me after we were hanging out at a local craft beer establishment. Thanks, Mike! ABV = 9.0%
